Make Your Own
Miniature Garden

It's so easy to make your own miniature garden in a box.

Start with the "hard landscaping".

I used a picture of a garden bench & a rustic bridge to set the scene.

Use your imagination to fill out with plants. Reindeer moss is available in a variety of greens and is great for using as a filler or to form shrubs

My Favourite Miniature Gardens

I’ve got a particular passion for gardening, in real life and in miniature. For most of us incorporating a large garden alongside our dolls house isn’t always practical but creating one in a box is fun and doesn’t take up a lot space.

The first one I ever made is one of my favourites, it’s not to scale and is a really simple design.

The wall is made from a piece of balsa wood and the open gate “leads through” to the garden behind.

The bird table is made from balsa wood and stained with shoe polish. The garden tools are simply madefrom cocktail sticks and thin tin cut to shape.

               Minimalist Miniature Garden

I always include a picture of a “real” garden somewhere in my designs I cut the picture of his summer house from a magazine and used it to set the theme for the gravel minimalist garden. . For example this box, another of my favourites, is a reproduction of one of Alan Titchmarsh’s gardens that used to be featured on BBC Gardeners World.

I particularly like the simplicity of this garden, instead of painting the sides or building them up with plants I used some mirror foil which adds to the overall effect. None of my gardens include people but I do like to add something of interest to bring them to life; in this case it’s the little ginger cat.

My Favourite Miniature Box Garden

The tulips were my first attempt at making flowers from Fimo. All the other flowers are made from a selection of dried and silk flower heads cut from full size blooms.

The table and chair is made from a cut up, old pond plant basket.
